Jamish is part of the Customer Success team at TrueLayer, where he spends most of his time supporting our customers to ensure they have a great experience with us. He is known for his empathy and pragmatism, and his cool 😎 , calm, and collected approach to stakeholder management. When he’s not busy looking after our customers, Jamish enjoys diving into a bit of data analysis and engaging in entrepreneurial brainstorming.

Tell us a bit about the Customer Success team at TrueLayer and what you do?

We work with customers to make sure they‘re getting as much value from our products as possible. In practice, this means we spend the majority of our day interacting with customers to gain a deeper understanding of their business and goals so that we can help them to achieve their objectives. 📊

I’ve been spending a lot of time recently helping our clients to expand into Europe. Another key part of our role is to obtain feedback from our clients that we can pass on to our engineering teams. This ensures that we’re always building products that are solving specific pain points in the market.

We’re constantly learning in this role. Our diverse client base uses our technology for a wide range of applications in different geographies. I’ve personally enjoyed building strong relationships with people at innovative companies.

What is the most challenging thing about your role?

Treading the delicate line between being the voice of TrueLayer for the client and the voice of the client at TrueLayer. This is a big challenge. We often have to hold difficult conversations and there are lots of stakeholders to manage. Trying to master this tightrope is what makes the role so engaging and rewarding.

What are you most excited to work on at TrueLayer over the next few months?

As we continue to expand across Europe, I’m excited to help our clients expand with us into new markets. We’re also developing some game-changing products that will enable our clients to estimate a user’s income and expenditure. These products will unlock new use cases and efficiency gains for many of our clients so I’m looking forward to rolling these out more widely.

What attracted you to TrueLayer?

I had no prior experience in fintech but was intrigued by the buzz of the industry. When I looked into open banking it got my brain ticking. I saw this as the start of the consumer open data journey and I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I also got a great feeling about the culture and direction of the company during the recruitment process. It was an easy decision to make when I received the offer.

If you weren’t at TrueLayer, what would you be doing?

Until I was around 19, I harboured dreams of being a professional footballer. Since then, my ambition has shifted to entrepreneurship so I’d be busy working on my own business if I wasn’t at TrueLayer. I know a lot of the team here have the same dream so it’s great to be working in a fast-paced environment with like-minded people.

How do you maintain balance while working in a fast-paced startup environment?

I try to make sure I’ve got a good routine to avoid burnout. I start every day with some stretching and exercise. I try not to work later than 6.30 pm so that I have time to cook a healthy meal in the evening and get at least 7 hours of sleep. I take a wellbeing day each month (at TrueLayer, everyone gets 3 wellbeing days per quarter alongside a normal holiday allowance) to recharge, and spend weekends with the people that I love. I’ve also turned off all notifications on my phone. I’m still finding checking Slack addictive, so maintaining balance is definitely a work in progress.

What would you like to share with those interested in joining TrueLayer?

If you’re attracted by our culture and our mission excites you, I’d encourage you to apply, even if you don’t see a perfect fit. I initially applied for BizOps and at the end of the recruitment process, we saw a mutual fit in Customer Success. Regardless of your role, you’ll have a lot of autonomy and will work alongside fantastic colleagues in a family-feel environment.

What’s a great book that you’ve read or podcast you’ve listened to recently and why?

As we adapt to a more remote-first way of working, I’ve started reading Deep Work by Cal Newport. It’s helped me to find some focus in the workday amongst all the distractions at home. I’ve also been writing a lot, so I’m finding Writing Tools by Roy Clark quite useful.️

The best book I’ve read through recently is Primo Levi’s ‘If This Is A Man’. It’s one of those rare books that puts everything into perspective.

What is your life motto?

“Whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well; and nothing can be done well without attention.”

My dad would call upon this quote when we were doing our best to avoid doing the chores as kids. I like to think I live by it now.
